Norwich Knockout

Norwich Knockout is a grassroots fighting game community event regularly hosted in Norwich in the UK.
I designed logos, branding, promotional images and stream graphics for the project.
Branding
COLOUR PALETTE
The logo and branding is mostly reliant on its secondary dark grey and accent white. Whilst the primary colour of gold serves as symbolic for triumph, success and prestige - all things one strives for in competition - it also is able to be substituted within branding when relevant for visual cohesion with the games represented in the tournament series.

TYPOGRAPHY
Norwich Knockout uses only one typeface, Tw Cen MT Condensed. Only two weights are used throughout branding; Regular for general text used in stream layouts and promotion, and Extra for the logo and other headers.

LOGO DESIGN
The Norwich Knockout logo features primarily two main features - the famous Norwich Castle as a recognisable landmark to represent the city and thus the location of the event, and a silhouette of the rising uppercut that is Ryu from Street Fighter's Shoryuken - a similarly recognisable move that informs everyone the event is about fighting games, and serves as a grounding centrepiece for the logo.
Additionally, when individual games that are frequently played at Norwich Knockout are represented or displayed, the primary colour of the logo shifts with those games. At a glance, attendees can know exactly which game is represented at a particular Norwich Knockout just from the colour alterations.

Promotion
EVENT PROMOTION
In order to promote the events on social media platforms and through posters and billboards inside the venue, I designed a cohesive template utilising the logos alongside greyscale game imagery that would culminate in a striking presentation of the particular game at hand. Just by seeing a character and the respective colour of the logo, potential participants would know what game would be available to compete in that weekend.
The use of each game's primary colours extended into advertising and bracket signup pages on start.gg.

The design's simplistic style lends well to temporary evolutions for 'guest games' at the event.

Streaming
STREAM ASSETS
The final pieces of work developed for the project were the assets used for tournament streaming.
